Get involved

The Ideabox is a synergetic, community-based organization. It cannot achieve its full potential without a large number of contributors! (see explanation below)

Here’s what you can do:

1, Join us!

Register with TIB here. Username and password-- you know the deal.

If you have particular themes you would like to be alerted about when there’s news in that area, click here.

If you’re ready to submit a program or program idea to our Big List, you’ll be ready to go!

2, spread the word!!

You know how the viral email thing works, right? (Obama did a good job with that.) We invite you to invite your friends to join TIB. Click here to enter their email addresses—feel free to export an entire address list from your email. By responding to this email, your friends will be directed to TIB. We’ll take care of the rest!

3, donate!!

We’re working pro-bono these days so donations would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. (We’ll soon be incorporated as an LC3 and capable of accepting tax-deductible donations.)

Obviously, you will also be able to donate directly to specific projects on our list! Small donations wll be received in full. Donations of $1000 and above will be subject to a nominal commission. (Why?)

Why get involved?

Short answer: Lots of people making little contributions makes a big difference.

Long answer:

While our database doesn’t seem particularly impressive right now, imagine it with hundreds of creative community building programs from all over the country, all categorized for easy searchability.

Imagine discussion boards for certain “kinds” of programs or activistic approaches that bring together like-minded people from everywhere, cooperating and feeding off each other.

Imagine what a few successful examples of creative community building will do to bring more large-scale funders into the mix.

Imagine the loose worlds of social entrepreneurship, the nascent and unnamed “do-gooder movement,” and the creative sector in general working toward common goals under the banner of CEI.

The actors and the potential are already out there. The Ideabox is a vehicle to harness and focus it toward specific results, both short and long term.

The more projects and leaders that sign up, the more information there will be to share among members. This will increase synergy in several ways, with the ultimate visible results of improved communities and enhanced concern and publicity for civic engagement. This combination also forms a new kind of virtuous momentum: the more people talk about civic engagement, and the easier and cooler it seems, the more people will do it; and as such programs produce positive results on the ground, those results will generate more energy and better press.

That is a long-term vision, but make no mistake, it starts today, with individual action by people like you.
